A personal approach to business and nonprofit accounting

Hi! I’m Cirila Cerilo, founder of Magna Financial Care.

I’m a Frederick-based business and nonprofit accountant for organizations that want their finances handled thoughtfully, accurately, and without unnecessary stress. My work is grounded in professional expertise, responsiveness, and a genuine respect for the people behind the numbers.

I bring more than 30 years of combined experience across accounting, economics, banking, business development, and education.

That range has shaped how I work today: practical, clear, and focused on helping organizations stay organized, compliant, and prepared for what’s next.

My goal is simple: keep your financial records accurate and easy to understand so you can focus on your mission.

My background: the path that shaped how I work today

My career path hasn’t been a straight line, and that’s part of what makes my work effective.

I began in banking and accounting while in college, earned a degree in economics, and then spent two years in the Peace Corps as a Community Development volunteer. During that time, I worked alongside local groups to plan projects, apply for grants, and manage funds responsibly. That experience taught me how much good financial structure matters, especially when resources are limited and accountability is critical.

After returning to the U.S., I worked as an economist with the Bureau of Labor Statistics and later pursued graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University. Over the years, I also spent nearly two decades teaching and volunteering in my community, including preparing tax returns through the VITA program. Each chapter strengthened my ability to explain complex information clearly and meet people where they are.

In 2021, I returned to hands-on bookkeeping work as a financial administrator for a non-profit organization. In 2023, I launched Magna Financial Care to support businesses and nonprofits that wanted reliable, personalized financial services without the layers and delays of a large firm.

Nonprofit accounting expertise, flexible support for all businesses

Thanks to my background and my heart for service, nonprofit accounting is a core part of my work today. I help nonprofit organizations stay compliant, organized, and confident in their financial reporting, especially when managing grants and funding with specific requirements. My work includes tracking restricted funds accurately, preparing clear reports for funders and boards, and maintaining financial records, like revenue support schedules, that ensure ongoing tax-exempt status.

I understand that nonprofit financials follow different rules than for-profit businesses. My role as a nonprofit accountant is to make those requirements manageable and transparent, so your organization can focus on carrying out its mission statement rather than worrying about compliance.

I also work with small and mid-sized businesses across a wide range of industries. Some clients need full-service bookkeeping, while others want help with account cleanup, reconciliations, QuickBooks setup, or preparation for tax season. My goal is to meet you where you are and provide the level of support that fits your organization today.

Outside the numbers

When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me walking or hiking, tending to my garden, or caring for bees, chickens, and the many wild animals that find their way onto my property.

I also stay active in the Frederick community, volunteering with Mission of Mercy’s monthly food distribution and serving as Board Treasurer for The Frederick Children’s Chorus.

That balance matters to me, and it shapes how I work with clients: steady, attentive, and grounded.
